  • How to plan and assess more challenging routes in remote and wild places, safely
  • Emergency procedures with a group and what to do in an emergency.

Location

The Lake District is the UK’s most beautiful place.  Voted for countless times, spoken about by Wordsworth and documented by Wainwright.  It has over 800 square miles of the most gorgeous countryside anywhere in the world.  From soft rolling hills to sharp ridges, long valleys, and England’s highest mountain, ScaFell Pike at 978m, the Lake District offers a lifetime of stunning hill walking.

Map Compass courses –  Learn to navigate and improve your map reading skills in the Lakes and enjoy outstanding beauty and the best of the UK’s scenery.  Climbing the list of Wainwright’s fells becomes a passion, and will provide countless memorable days on the hill.

Accommodation

The Lodge in the Vale

Our preferred accommodation location in the Lakes is the Lodge in the Vale on the foot of Helvellyn, between Grasmere and Keswick. This new and modern contemporary lodge has ensuite rooms, wifi, a coffee shop yet is in keeping in build with its superb location. This spacious, airy facility is an ideal starting point for your Lake District course, with friendly and helpful staff making your stay comfortable. Travel is straight forward, it is just off the main A591 if you are driving, or by train to Windermere and then take a bus from the station to Keswick and ask the driver for a request stop near the Lodge in the Vale.

If the lodge is full, the staff there will help arrange alternative accommodation for you at one of their nearby sister locations of the King’s Head or Traveller’s Rest. They have houses for rent too if you come in a large group and want to make a holiday around your course.  Your instructor will provide you with routes to try your new found skills on that are safe and enjoyable if you want to extend your stay in the most beautiful place in the UK- The Lake District.
